Sorry I couldn't give you a direct link to the photo, livejournal embedding not allowed but I had to share this photograph because it's nice to see children being allowed to voice their views about the casting.

*nice

Curse you, Livejournal, for not letting us modify posts. :P

You can if you have a paid account! /loves abusing said feature

True, I'm not exactly thrilled that it costs money to do so, BUT IT'S WORTH THE NO ADS AND ICON SPACE. <3333

Awww, what a neat photo! Thank you for posting this. :)

Great photo!

I remember being part of a Korean drumming group when I was a kid. Nothing fancy or professional - the Korean parents at my elementary school just got together and made us kids learn a drum routine for the school's Diversity Day. We had to wear hanboks, too.

My god, I love that photo so damn much. It's a shame Shyamalan and everyone involved with this clusterfuck of a movie couldn't see what made the original show so great. *sigh*

It really is. The reason I got into Avatar: The Last Airbender was because I was in love with it's oriental setting, mostly it's Ancient Chinese setting and the movie doesn't even allude to that.

If M.Night really loved the show like he says he does, he would have stayed true to the source as closely as he could. Sure he would have had to tweak the story itself to make the plot fit into a 3 hour or 1 hour slot, maybe cut out a few characters, but he didn't have to change the entire setting we all love or the characters themselves.
18th-Jul-2010 07:36 pm (UTC)
Same. It was such a gorgeously fleshed out world and something I never really saw outside of anime and still don't.

THIS. I honestly think that M Night is lying through his teeth and just read the Wikipedia summaries. It's the only explanation that makes any sense to me.

That or he just watched a few episodes and didn't bother to do as much of the research Mike and Bryan did.

I hope Mike and Bryan will take this as a lesson to not sign their rights away to another director (if anyone else will even take on this franchise after that disaster), someone who will actually put their heart and soul into recreating ATLA.
18th-Jul-2010 09:36 pm (UTC)
That's for sure. Man doesn't understand squat about the AtLA-verse.

Thing is, it may not have been Bryke themselves. AtLA is owned by Nickelodeon, even if Bryke came up with the idea. They created the series, but Nick has all of the distributing rights. Remember the Viacom VS YouTube fiasco a couple years ago? While Bryke may like AMVs, Viacom, Nick's parent company, clearly doesn't. Twats. :|

That is true. Viacom do like to anger us fan folk.

Kind of felt sorry for those kids drumming; only a few minute in and I heard a little boy, "I'm getting tired!"

"livejournal embedding not allowed"? How's that? Bcz it's a photo of kids?
18th-Jul-2010 10:17 am (UTC)
Maybe the photographer just didn't click whatever you have to click to allow livejournal embedding, most people don't.

I want to know too.

the Angry Asian America tee is on the same site that sells the Racebending.com shirts,http://blacklava.net/

One of the signs has the sentence "My hero is Asian American." What does that mean? Is that referring to Aang? If so, LOL, "American." It's like Shyamalan calling only the black Earth Kingdom "-Americans."

Not to demote the protest or the protestors, of course. Aang being -American anything is just "huh?" I wonder if he likes baseball games and veggie hot dogs. Wait, veggie hot dogs are unAmerican, and hence, evil.

^^^^ THIS.

I wonder if he likes baseball games and veggie hot dogs. Wait, veggie hot dogs are unAmerican, and hence, evil.

*Lols*
19th-Jul-2010 01:11 am (UTC)
I was going to type just regular hot dogs but I remembered that Aang (and maybe by extension all Airbenders) is a vegetarian. That's why he can't possibly be American. (LOL, McDonalds had the Airbenders eating Chicken McNuggets in their commercial).

But the black people of the Earth Kingdom in The Last Airbender can be American.
19th-Jul-2010 01:37 am (UTC)
.... wait wait wait McDonalds did WHAT NOW? Seriously? O____O FAIL. *i-is kind of outraged now, is vegetarian and really really does not approve of this*
19th-Jul-2010 01:44 am (UTC)
Here you go. The commercial actually did a better job at portraying the Asian culture of the show and the Airbending better than the movie. The only problem is Airbenders are vegetarian (at least Aang is, but I think every Air Nomad was, too).

LOL @ at your cool Bjork icons. I'm not a "fan" fan but I enjoy some of her songs.
19th-Jul-2010 01:52 am (UTC)
...... No. Just... No. And people dressed as Buddhist monks eating chicken nuggets? That's just so many kinds of wrong. Sorry if I'm getting overly upset about this b-but... NO! D8

\o/ I love her and her crazy music. xD And all the photos of her, they make such great icons.
19th-Jul-2010 02:00 am (UTC)
Anything attached to The Last Airbender causes people to be upset. LOL!
18th-Jul-2010 01:49 am (UTC)
I think that could be open to interpretation. Like maybe the actor who is the hero could be Asian American?
19th-Jul-2010 01:09 am (UTC)
That makes so much more sense. When will that ever happen? Sigh...
