"Taken over by darkness"...

Also, that freeze frame on Avatar-state Ringer gives me the lulz.

thanks!

Paramount ISN'T airing Iron Man 2's ad, perhaps to give this one more attention and/or to save the money.

That's weird. Seems like most people watching the Superbowl would be more receptive to an Iron Man 2 ad than one for The Last Airbender. But maybe that's it - Paramount figures that Iron Man 2 doesn't need their help, lol...

The effects are amazing. And they actually cribbed quite a few shots from the original.

Music sucks. Very clearly playing it to the fanboys.

I like how we never get to look at Aang's face.

Freeze frame of Sokka/Katara stat please.

4th-Feb-2010 07:08 pm (UTC) - Turbans?
Aw man, is the Fire Nation really going to be wearing turbans?
4th-Feb-2010 10:19 pm (UTC) - Re: Turbans?
It's to show how diverse they are, clearly. -.-

The special effects seem decent, so I'll give them that.

ETA: Can't actually listen to the trailer though, since I'm at work. Could someone give a rundown of anything especially good or bad?

There's one shot of Sokka and Katara- it's cribbed from the series promo shot, with Sokka holding a lantern with his arm around Katara. Mostly it's action shots of Aang fighting the Fire Nation soldiers, though there is one shot that looks like an Earthbender- maybe Haru? Also, we see Aang's arrow glowing in the Avatar state.

Re: sound, it's just generic rambling about how he's the only hope of a world "consumed by darkness" with rock music in the background.

trailer music is usually NEVER from the original soundtrack... just placeholder music to evoke the idea. Fortunately XD

"Music composed by producer's nephews playing Guitar Hero"

Wow, we even get the "Charlie Chan family photo" wannabee shot.
4th-Feb-2010 07:44 pm (UTC)
The bending actually looks okay. Too bad about everything else :\

Things I like:
- SWT shot (and some other things) they basically took from the first episode
- Appa!
- special effects are great as expected

Things I don't like:
- two white kids in an otherwise Inuit village? <_< - bending forms look somewhat weird - generic rock music LOL WTF moment: - Is that Zhao vs. the Cabbage Merchant? XD
4th-Feb-2010 08:02 pm (UTC)
Where's the part with Appa?
4th-Feb-2010 07:46 pm (UTC)
Appa looks neato, though.
4th-Feb-2010 08:17 pm (UTC)

the rock music = lol. Tryin too hard to make it bad ass.

special effects are amazing, but then so were the special effects for Star Wars Phantom menace/Spiderman 3. Special effects do NOT make the movie.

"In a world consumed by darkness" - cut to scary brown people burning things. UM GREAT.

The moment where Aang slides underneath the guy's sword was pretty "SUPERSTAR! *pose*"-ish. I lol'd

It's funny how in the show, Avatar-state is the only time when Aang becomes serious to the point of being scary. In the spot, the Avatar state is the only time I can laughing at the sight of him. Maybe the music didn't help, but if that anonymous fandom_secrets comment is true, I'm not sure I'm going to like this new 'hardcore' super-serious hero of the faceless POC villagers Aang.

Yeah, the only thing I like in all of this is the special effects.

Frankly, it's hard to get a feel for the trailer from this 30 second spot filled with 80% CGI effects and quick cuts. This more or less a showcase for ILM and a confirmation firebenders can't generate their own fire.

That and apparently Zhou is going to be a bit on the hammy side. Looked like some scenery chewing going on there.
